Role: UX Designer
Tools: Figma
Timeline: Q3 2024
Objective:
The primary goal was to redesign the VS Code extension experience, guided by user feedback gathered through comprehensive interviews.
Process:
User Research
We researched our target users to understand their needs and preferences. We conducted user interviews and usability tests with Applications Engineers, Field Applications Engineers (FAEs), and Product Managers to learn more about their experiences and challenges. The analysis identified several key pain points:
Users experienced confusion immediately after installing the VS Code extension.
Instructions for executing functions were unclear, leading to frustration and uncertainty.
The extension lacked visual cues and feedback, making it difficult for users to understand system responses.
Ideating & Wireframes
At the initial stages of this process, I conducted a thorough competitive analysis of how other extension onboarded their users. My focus then gradually shifted toward creating a more effective onboarding experience for Simplicity Studio’s VS Code extension by illustrating the current user experience compared to the proposed improved experience.
After developing the wireframes, we conducted usability testing with the same users to refine the experience. These tests evaluated effectiveness and validated alignment with user expectations. Through iterative refinements based on feedback, we optimized the final wireframes for engagement and usability.
Outcome:
Still in the progress to implement all the proposed changes.
